History in the Making

Believe it or not, LinkedIn started out in the living room of Reid Hoffman, a co-founder of LinkedIn in 2002. The official launch was May 5, 2003. By the end of the first month, there was a total of 4,500 members in the network and by June 2012 their is an average of two members per second signing up to join LinkedIn.

By August 2012, LinkedIn has the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with more than 175 members from over 200 countries. Roughly 62% of members are from places outside of the United States. Their headquarters are in Mountain View, California, but also have locations in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Omaha and San Francisco. Their International offices are located in Amsterdam, Bangalore, Delhi, Dublin, Hong Kong, London, Madrid, Melbourne, Milan, Mumbai, Munich, Paris, Perth, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney, Tokyo and Toronto.

About 70% of LinkedIn’s users are between the ages of 25 and 54, with over half of them being males. The majority of the information shared online is done by individuals through Groups and Profile status updates. People utilize this to exchange ideas and ask questions with other people that they can learn from or hold some value to them in the near future.
