Automaker, start your Vine engines—Lexus is doing what they believe has not been done before! They claim to be the first automaker to reveal new models using Vine.
Lexus unveiled their Lexus RC Sports Coupe and Lexus LF-NX Turbo compact crossover SUV concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. That day Lexus asked Twitter followers to tweet using the hashtag #LexusInTokyo to request details about the models. Lexus selected two tweets an hour (from 9am to 7pm) to reply with a Vine video showing the details they requested. It sounds like a play out of Honda’s social media marketing playbook, however let’s not forget when Lexus took advantage of the #Yeezus to promote their brand.
Although these two brands have done well utilizing Twitter to showcase their models, among automakers Ford is credited with starting the trend. They introduced their new 2011 Ford Fiesta in 2010 on Facebook. They then used Twitter the following year to introduce the Fiesta to Argentina.
It’s time to start following automakers on Twitter and Vine to see what they come up with next! So far, they are doing a good job at competing with each other while focusing on their follower’s interested. Two thumbs up to these brands making waves, or in this case tire treads!
